Authorities in New York investigate the site where a Mexican sailing ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge for instructions on how the fatal collision took place.
Two people on board were killed and at least 19 others were injured when the Mexican navy training ship crashed against the bridge on Saturday evening.
The police said early investigations showed that the ship had lost power before the collision. Video showed the three long masts from the ship crumbling while shocked spectators looked from the coast.
It is not clear how the ship approached the bridge, the authorities confirmed that it was not damaged by the strike. It was reopened late on Saturday to traffic.
The police said that the Cuauhtémoc ship had a mast height of 48.2 million (158 ft), while the bridge had an approval of 41.1 million (135 ft) in the center, according to the website of the New York Transport Department.
Respondents were able to remove at least 27 people from the ship for treatment, while 277 employees were already justified on the ship, according to the New York fire department.
The ship lost all three masts and has been moved for research into a nearby pier.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it sent a team to help the American Coast Guard with the research, which is coordinated between the governments of the US and Mexico.
The Marine secretary of Mexico, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, said in a statement that the results of each study would be followed with “total transparency and responsibility”.
The Cuauhtémoc left Acapulco, Mexico on 6 April on a tour with stops in New York and Aberdeen, Scotland, for the Tall Ships race of the city in July.
