Yuval Raphael represented Israel, amid protests about the involvement of the country

For the second year in a row there was a controversy about the participation of Israel, where demonstrators argue for the resignation of the country about his military action in Gaza.

Pro-Palestinian protests took place in the streets of Basel in the hours before the competition.

Later a man and a female people were prevented from invading the stage during the performance of Israel.

“One of the two agitators threw paint and a crew member was hit,” said Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR in a statement to the BBC.

“The crew member is fine and nobody was injured.

“The man and the woman were taken from the location and transferred to the police.”

The performance, by the young singer Yuval Raphael, was unaffected.

The 25-year-old is a survivor of the Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023, an experience that her delicate ballad has colored, will rise new day.

The Israeli delegation said Raphael was “shaken and upset” by the incident, but that it was “extremely proud” on her performance “that Israel represented in a respectful way”.

Elsewhere, Eurovision was the usual explosion of Hoog Kamp, sexual insinuations and dresses that were removed to reveal smaller, tighter dresses.

Malta’s Mariana Conte was forced to rewrite her Disco volk song and side to remove what sounded like a curse word – but performed the censored version with an knowing wink, safe in the knowledge that the audience would fill in in the empty spots.

Although it was a favorite with fans, Conte could only manage 17th.

Tommy Cash of Estonia, who finished third, also kept the insinuation train active, with Espresso Macchiato, a caffeinated disco people with the unforgettable expression: “Life is like spaghetti, it’s hard until you make it.”

Another highlight was the Erika Vikman of Finland, who entirely provided with double income on Ich Komme, a lively hymn for sexual pleasure.

The singer ended her performance by fleeing a gigantic fallic microphone that shot in the air.

It pushed her in the 11th position and a permanent place in the Eurovision -Pantheon.

Erika Vikman’s performance suffered various technical hitches in rehearsals, but it all went in the night

The competition also involved more heavy topics such as economic migration (Portuguese rock band NAPA) and environmental catastrophe (Tautumeitas of Latvia, who scored 12 points from the British jury).

The Dutch singer Claude brought a sincere tribute to his mother in C’est La Vie – a cheerful national anthem thinking about her positivity when she uprooted the family from their home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo as a child.

In a moving climax, the 21-year-old danced with an image of his youth himself in a mirror on stage.

Also consult the French singer Louane on their youth, whose tear ballad was dedicated to her mother, who died of cancer when she was 17.

In one of the most striking versions of the night, she was surrounded by a whirlwind of sand while shouting the word “mother” over and over again.

One of the favorites to win, it ended the night in the seventh Place, after having received a disappointing 50 points from the public.

The performance of JJ was dramatic in the same way. Shooted in black -white shot, it saw him thrown around on a rickety boat, while waves (of emotion) threatened to consume him.

An honorable mention also goes to Lucio Corsi in Italy, whose Harmonica Solo in Volevo Essere Un Duro was marked the first time that a live instrument has been played in Eurovision since 1998.

The UK spent a third year on the bottom half of the rankings, despite a lively achievement by Girl Group Remember Monday.

A group of friends who met in high school, their inventive pop song what the hell has just happened? Drew from their many years of experience in West End Theater.

The girls drew their awkward three -part harmonies while dancing around a fallen chandelier, but the performance did not connect with voters.

Despite the earning of a healthy 88 points from juries – including 12 from Italy – it bombarded with viewers.

They finished in 19th place, one under last year’s participant Olly Alexander.

The group laughed their “zero points” score of the audience, held peace signs and hugged each other when the score was announced.

The band took their defeat in good grace

Voting was generally chaotic.

Thirteen of the 26 finalists received the maximum of 12 points of at least one jury, leaving the competition completely open before the public vote was counted.

Israel, who won away in the bottom half of the table, then received 297 points from the public (from a possible maximum of 444). Twelve of those points came from the UK.

For a while it seemed that Yuval Raphael’s lead was perhaps inviolable – but the count of Austria of 178 was the last to be announced, making the singer empty -handed.

There was also disappointment for fans of Canadian singer Céline Dion, who is said to appear on the competition.

The singer won Eurovision for Switzerland in 1988 and was released in a video that the participants wished good luck in the semi -final on Tuesday.

Despite the hope of the organizers of Eurovision that she could appear, the moment never came to pass.
