Beauty queen Nguyen Thuc Thuy Ten arrested for fraud about gummies

Vietnamese authorities have arrested a beauty queen and social media influencer for consumer fraud after she had promoted a counterfeit fibers supplement.

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien had heavily put on the market gummies that are said to be rich in fiber on her social media channels.

But a public recoil broke out after product tests revealed that this was not true.

A former winner of the Miss Grand International Beauty Competition, Mrs. Nguyen is a well -known personality in Vietnam and previously received praises from the government.

Mrs. Nguyen had promoted Kera Supergreens gummies together with social media influencers, Pham Quang Linh and Hang du Muc.

Researchers said the product was the result of a joint venture between Mrs. Nguyen and a company set up by the other two influencers.

The influencers claimed that each of their gummies contained fiber that was equivalent to a plate of vegetables.

A member of the audience sent the product for testing at a laboratory, which showed that every gummy contained only 16 mg of fiber, far from 200 mg as claimed.

Authorities then launched an investigation that discovered that ingredients of the sub -standard that had few fiber were used in the production of the gummies.

The packaging of the product also did not mention the fiber content, nor stated that the product contained a high level of sorbitol, which is used with laxatives.

The three influencers were fined in March and apologized to the public.

The following month the Vietnamese authorities arrested Mr. Pham and Hang du Muc, as well as civil servants of their company and the manufacturer of Gummies.

They were charged with producing counterfeit goods and cheating customers.

On Monday, the authorities announced the arrest of Mrs. Nguyen for alleged deceptive customers.

Allegedly, more than 100,000 boxes of the gummies were sold before the sale was stopped because of the scandal.

After winning the beauty competition based in Bangkok in 2021, Mrs. Nguyen was sought a celebrity by many Vietnamese brands and appeared in various reality TV shows.

She also received certificates of merit from the prime minister and the ruling communist party from Vietnam.
