The assistants of former US President Joe Biden have refused to a new book that accuses his inner circle of the White House of obscuring his “physical deterioration” during his fatal re -election campaign.

According to the book, the original sin, the situation of Biden was said to be so poor during his presidential run of 2024 that assistants discussed him in a wheelchair.

A spokesperson for Biden, 82, said that “proof of aging is not evidence of mental disability” and maintained that the Democrat had been “a very effective president”.

The book, by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson from Axios, will be released on May 20.

Biden abruptly ended his re -election campaign last July shortly after his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump, a Republican.

Party insiders blamed him for leaving the race too late, causing his replacement, vice-president Kamala Harris, 107 days to challenge Trump, who wiped for victory.

Prior to the release of the book, Biden gave his first interview last week since he left the White House At the BBCSaying: “I don’t think it would have done” if he had left the race earlier.

BIDEN: Return rather from 2024 “would not matter”

Although the book quotes largely anonymous sources in interviews with more than 200 people, David Plouffe, one of the few is quoted on the record, who worked on the campaign of vice-president Harris.

“We are so sewn by Biden as a party,” says the book Plouffe.

The authors write: “Biden’s physical deterioration – most clearly in his stop walk – had become so serious that there were internal discussions about placing the president in a wheelchair, but they could only do this after the elections.

“Given the age of Biden, (his doctor Kevin O’Connor) also said private that if he still had a bad fall, a wheelchair could be needed for what could be a difficult recovery,” the book adds.

The physical condition of Biden had declined in no time, the authors said that assistants had tried to ensure that he ran shorter distances, used handrails when mounting the stairs and wore trainers more often.

At the time, BIDEN assistants repeatedly told reporters that his changed course was due to a foot break in November 2020 and his subsequent refusal to consistently prescribed surgical boot are wearing.

In a statement to Axios, an anonymous Biden assistant said: “Yes, there were physical changes as he got older, but proof of aging is not proof of mental disability.”

The spokesperson added: “We are still waiting for someone, everyone, to point out where Joe Biden had to make a presidential decision or take a presidential address where he could not do his work because of mental decline.

“In fact, the evidence points to the opposite – he was a very effective president.”

The book by Tapper and Thompson also says that Biden George Clooney did not recognize on a stars-lined California Campaign Fundraiser organized by the Hollywood star last June.

“Thank you for being here,” Biden Clooney said during the event, apparently not knowing that he spoke with the Academy Award winner.

“You know George,” said an assistant to Biden because he had trouble working out Clooney’s identity.

Not long after the incident, Clooney wrote an opinion piece in the New York Times that called Biden to leave the race. The actor was one of the first major donors to publicly withdraw his support.

The book also claims that Biden has forgotten the names of experienced assistants, including trusted loyalist Mike Donilon, national security adviser Jake Sullivan and communication director Kate Beetingsfield.
