Cancer touches us all, says Biden after an outpouring of support

Former US President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude for the words of support that have penetrated after he had announced his diagnosis of cancer on Sunday.

“Cancer touches us all,” Biden wrote on social media on Monday morning. “Like so many of you, Jill and I learned that we are the strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us with love and support.”

On Sunday, the Biden office revealed that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

The news comes as new questions are asked about the health of the former president while he was in office.

“On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a gleason score of 9 (degree group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” said Biden’s office in a statement.

“Although this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer seems to be hormone sensitive that makes effective management possible.”

A nine gleason score means that his illness is classified as “high-quality” and the cancer cells can spread quickly, according to Cancer Research UK.

Questions were asked about how long he had had this cancer and whether the disease influenced him while he was still in office.

Biden said his diagnosis was made on Friday after he reported urinary symptoms so that doctors found a small lump on his prostate.

After the diagnosis of cancer, many Biden offered their support, including President Donald Trump, former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris.

King Charles, who undergoes his own treatment for an unknown cancer, has offered his support and sent his best wishes to Biden.

Vice-president JD Vance offered good wishes, but wondered if the American people had a clear picture of Biden’s health, while the former president was in office.

“We really have to be honest about whether the former president was able to do the work,” said Vance on Monday. “And that is … you can desire that he has the right health result with a recognition that it was whether they were doctors or that there were staff members around the former president, I don’t think he could do a good job for the American people.”

Vance also said he blamed the people around him than Biden himself.

“This is not child’s play, and we can pray for good health, but also acknowledge that if you are not good enough to do the work, you would not have to do the work,” he added.

The announcement comes as Biden the criticism of an upcoming book that claims that he and his advisers hid his deteriorating health while he was in the White House.

Details unveiled from the book entitled last week, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, the cover-up and his disastrous choice to run again, Biden does not recognize the actor and frequent democratic donor George Clooney last year with a fundraising and discussing the former president in a roles.

The book will be released on Tuesday.

Almost a year ago, the former president was forced to leave the US presidential elections from 2024 because of concern about his health and age.
