A diver died during the preliminary operations to restore the super yacht of the British Tech -Tycoon Mike Lynch from the waters off the coast of North Sicily, the local police said.

The accident happened on Friday while the diver was under water in Porticello, the police said, adding the precise cause of death was still unknown.

According to local Italian media, the diver was a 39-year-old Dutch National who worked for a Salvage Company specialist.

It comes when Salvage ships arrived earlier this month for the small port of Porticello, near Palermo, where the Bayesian ship sank again during the Freak last August.

Seven out of 22 people On board the Bayesian last summer were killed, Including Mr. Lynch, 59, and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah.

Morgan Stanley International Bank -chairman Jonathan Bloomer, 70, and his wife, Judy, 71, American lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda Morvillo and The Chef Cock Recaldo Thomas of the yacht, originally from AntiguaAlso died in sinking on August 19.

Fifteen people managed to escape on a lifeboat, including a one -year -old and the wife of Mr. Lynch Angela Bacares.

The cause of sinking is still being investigated with navy experts who say that a hunt of Bayesian’s caliber should have been able to resist the storm and certainly not to have sunk as quickly as it did.

The Salvage Operation is checked by British Marine Consultancy TMC Marine and led by Dutch companies Hebo, a Maritime Services Company from Rotterdam and Smit Salvage, with the support of Italian specialists.

About 70 specialized staff from all over Europe in Sicily has been deployed to work on the recovery operation.

On Thursday, the team said that the preparations were on schedule on the schedule and that “considerable progress” had been made in the last five days.

Analysis of the yacht and the surrounding seabed confirmed that since the last inspection there had been no change in its condition, which means that plans to increase the ship can continue now.

Work to move the Bayesian in an upright position and lift it to the surface, would start later this month – subject to suitable weather and sea conditions.

Before the ship is transported to the harbor, seawater is pumped out.

Before the Bayesian is raised, it will be kept in position by steel garlands, since salvage staff loosen the extensive rigging of the ship and 72 m (236ft) Mast, which is thought to be one of the highest in the world.

These will then be stored on the seabed and will be restored after the team has recovered the hull of the ship, of which researchers say it is a primary source of evidence.
