The first set of 49 white South Africans who get President Donald Trump’s government from President Donald Trump is on their way to the US.
On Sunday they boarded a flight from Johannesburg, who was later in Washington DC.
This comes after a weekend of speculation when the Afrikaners would leave for America, amidst criticism from the South African government that described the US resounding schedule as “politically motivated”.
Relations between South Africa and the US have been tense for months, after an executive order in February in which President Trump stated that Afrikaners were the victims of “racial discrimination”.
The US has criticized the Interior South African policy and accused the government of seizing land of white farmers without any compensation -something that the South African nation says it did not happen.
Bilateral tensions have been tense for months, because President Trump instructed his administration to formulate plans to possibly restore Afrikaners in the US.
In March, The ambassador of South Africa in the US, Ebrahim Rasool, was deported After accusing President Trump of the use of “white victimization as a dog whistle”, the US accused Mr. Rasool of “Racebaing”.
The current group of refugees consists of 49 people, who are expected to land later in Washington DC, before continuing to Texas.
President Trump’s openness for accepting Afrikaner refugees is because the US is involved in a broader action against migrants and asylum seekers from other countries.
