Five dead after Tornado Tears by St. Louis

At least five people died and more than 5,000 buildings were damaged after a tornado was torn in Missouri by St. Louis.

The Tornado swept along a large road, tore roofs of houses, uprooting trees and the downing of power lines on Friday evening.

About 100,000 properties were left without electricity and the fire brigade said that house per house was sought in the worst affected areas.

The American National Weather Service reported at least six other tornadoes in Missouri and the neighboring Illinois, with more heavy weather conditions that extend eastwards to the Atlantic coast.

National Weather Service Radar suggested that the Tornado had been close to Forest Park shortly after 14:30 local time in the west of the city – the home of St Louis Zoo and the location of the 1904 Olympic Games.

St. Louis Fire Department said that three people should be saved after some of the nearby Centennial Christian Church collapsed. One of those people died.

An evening clock was imposed from 9:00 pm to 06:00 local time in the two areas where the most damage took place, to prevent injuries due to rubble and to reduce the potential for looting.

Mayor Cara Spencer of St. Louis said: “Our city mourns tonight. The loss of life and the destruction is really, really terrible.

“We will have a lot of work in the coming days.
