A Swiss mountain village is buried in a flood of ice, mud and rock, after a large part of the birch glacier collapsed in the valley below.
The village of Blatten, which was evacuated from its around 300 inhabitants a few days ago, was overwhelmed on Wednesday by thousands of tons of mud and ice.
Gleminging the earth ensures that glaciers melt faster. In the meantime, the permafrost – often described as the glue that holds together – is also stripped.
One person is missing and many houses have been flattened.
