‘He is one of us’ – Catholic Americans respond to the first Pope born in the US


Robert Prevost has become the first American to be chosen, after a two -day conclave in Vatican City. The 69-year-old will be the 267th resident of the throne of St. Peter and he will be known as Leo XIV.

Prevost, born in Chicago in 1955 with parents of Spanish and Franco-Italian descent, served as an altar boy and was ordained as a priest in 1982. He is the first American to play the role of Pope.

Jake Kwon of the BBC spoke with the American Catholics in Washington DC about the news and asked them what they want to see that Pope Leo XIV is doing it.
