Huge fire floods historic plantation house in Louisiana

Flames tore through a former plantation house in Louisiana, which was built in 1859, and destroyed much of the historical structure.

The fire started on Thursday afternoon, when two employees saw smoke coming from a room on the second floor.

Between 30 to 40 firefighters were present on the spot, but according to CBS News could not control the flames.

Towards the end of the day, the historic mansion was declared a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and there have been no reports of injuries.
