Israel has told people to evacuate Sanaa International Airport in the capital of Yemen, a day after it had hit the goals in the adjacent city of Hodeidah.
An Israeli military spokesperson warned: “Failure to evacuate and stay away from the area will endanger you.”
The attacks come after the Jemeni Houthi group fired a rocket that landed near Israel’s most important airport on Sunday.
Israel has launched several rounds of strikes against the group supported by Iran in Yemen, including the targeting of an power plant and ports in January. Israel has previously performed a strike on Sanaa’s Airport last December.
The IDF said on Monday that the Houthi goals attacked in the Hudaydah port and the Bajil Cement Factory east of the city of Hudaydah.
It claimed that the port was used by the group as a “central food source”, and for “the transfer of Iranian weapons”, while the cement factory functioned as a “significant economic source” and used by the group to construct tunnels and infrastructure.
The port is the second largest in the Red Sea and the access point for around 80% of Yemen food imports.
A spokesperson for the Houthi-Run Ministerie of Health, Anes al-Astbahi, said that at least 21 people were injured in the attack.
The Houthis blamed the US and Israel for the attack, but an American defense officer told the AFP press agency that their troops “did not participate” in the strikes on Yemen.
The rocket shot on Sunday morning to Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, landed next to an access road near the main terminal. Six people were injured, said Israeli emergency services.
After the strike, the Houthis said that they would “impose an extensive air blockade” on Israel by focusing on airports in response to Israel’s plans to expand his military operations in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised retribution against the Houthis for the airport attack, and said, “We have attacked in the past, we will attack in the future.”
