John “LJ” Scott Jr.‘s Death is indigning … with a new video of his arrest that seems to show that the police are dragging him over the ground in a police station.
If you don’t know … Scott died on April 22, about a week after he detained in Alabama on 15 April by the police of Decatur – with agents who say he had a medical emergency and died in the hospital.
Allegedly, the police arrived in an apartment complex on 15 April, where they say they found Scott “sweating heavily and showing whimsical behavior.”
Decatur Police Department
Officers responded to a call of 911 from Scott’s mother, who reported that he experienced a “mental health crisis”, ” According to NBC News. Body Cam images show agents who try to persuade Scott in an ambulance before they say that he became “combative” … leading to his arrest.
The images show that the officers eventually struggle on the floor – with the help of a taser – and drag him to prison … where video seems to show from the station that Scott is on the ground, surrounded by police officers.
It is hard to see him … But you can see what looks like his blue shirt by cracks in the collected crowd – and it seems that he is dragged over the floor and is dragged outside the frame.
Scott’s family lawyer, civil rights lawyer S. Lee MerrittShortly after this video was taken, Scott had a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital, where he finally passed.
We have been told that the family believes that LJ did not oppose agents, but instead did not respond – and possibly even unconsciously – and desperately needed medical attention.
Instead of helping him, Merritt says, the police dragged him with his feet in a prison chat and left him without any medical care. He adds that this was a “violation of LJ’s constitutional and human rights” … and he demands accountability.
Worth mentioning, DPD acknowledges that “medical and mental health struggle exacerbated by the suspect by drugs” played a factor in the events that took place … while his family maintained, the problem was a purely episode of mental health and saying that the police should have treated the situation differently.
Decatur Police Chief Nadis E. Carlisle Originally, Scott said “in a cell was placed by Morgan County Jail staff after some effort, because of his size and passive resistance.” It is unclear what they mean by ‘passive resistance’.
We have contacted the Decatur Police Department about this new video … so far, not a word back.
