King is preparing to give the most important speech support

King Charles III will later give an important speech in the Canada parliament on Tuesday, which is expected to offer his support in the country’s dispute with US President Donald Trump.

The King and Queen Camilla received a warm welcome when they arrived in Ottawa, during the first trip from the royal couple to Canada since the start of their reign.

Shortly after arrival, the king, the head of state of Canada, held a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, recently chosen on a wave of Anti-Trump Public Opinion.

Carney has praised the “historical ties” that form the independent identity of Canada, including the “vitality of our constitutional monarchy”, of which he said “crises only Fortify”.

Carney invited the king to give the speech at the opening of parliament after his recent general election victory, in a campaign dominated by the threats for the sovereignty of Canada van Trump.

It will be the first time in almost 50 years that a monarch gives the “speech of the throne”, with the decision of the king to come to the parliament in Ottawa as a symbolic show of support for Canada.

The king’s speech will be written on the advice of the Canadian government, with the expectation that she will send a clear, as diplomatic, that the country is “not for sale” to the US.

Carney said in advance that the speech, to be held in French and English, would correspond to “the weight of our time”.

On Monday afternoon, the King and Carney held a meeting in Rideau Hall, the residence of the Canadian Governor General, with both men for Canadian flags.

There were also meetings with leaders of Canada’s native and first nation groups, including Cindy Woodhouse, the national head of the Assemblee of First Nations.

The king looked relaxed in the Ottawa zon and participated in a tree planting ceremony and received an enthusiastic reception from spectators, who cheered and pressed to shake hands.

“Canada feels threatened and scared. It is very important that he is here,” said Theresa McNight, from Mississauga, Ontario.

Her sister Dianne St Louis from Toronto agreed: “It is crucial. It means a lot to leave the king next to Canadians.”

There was a warm welcome at Ottawa airport, for a visit of about 24 hours on the ground in Canada.

Carney was on the runway to meet the royal visitors, with a hospitable party with school children of English -speaking and French -speaking schools and representatives of First Nations Communities.

A community event had also been a checklist of Canadian moments, such as the king who dropped a puck to start a game of street hockey and get pots of maple syrup.

But the most important focus of this journey will be the historical speech on Tuesday, whereby the prospect that the king gives the message of the Canadian government to reject calls to become the American 51st state.

It is also a diplomatic balancing act because in its role as head of the state the UK, the king is part of an attempt to maintain good relationships with Trump, including inviting him for a second state visit.

But in Canada the king will have to speak on behalf of Canada. As another bystander in Rideau Hall said: “Sovereignty is important and he is the embodiment of it.”
