Michael Schumacher: German Monaco Grand Prix-winning Ferrari from 2001 sold for £ 13.43m

The Ferrari who was driven by Formula 1 -legend Michael Schumacher to the victory on the Monaco Grand Prix of 2001 was sold at an auction for 15.98 million euros (£ 13.43 million).

He also raced in the F2001 to win the Hungarian Grand Prix and to win the fourth of his seven world titles in that year.

The car was sold by RM Sotheby’s before he qualified for this year’s Monaco Grand Prix and was the most expensive car driven by the German, 56, which was sold at an auction.

It was also the fourth most expensive F1 car ever sold – the world record was set in February when a Mercedes ‘streamliner’ raced by Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio for £ 42.75 million.

Previously, the most paid for a car was driven by Schumacher’s £ 9.75 million for its F2003 in 2002.

Ferrari will hope Schumacher’s success in 2001 to simulate in Monte Carlo with Charles Leclerc Second, behind McLaren’s Lando Norris, on Sunday’s race.
