Different parts of the city have received more than 100 mm of rain that the authorities say it is rare

Parts of the South Indian city of Bengaluru, often called India’s Silicon Valley, are under water after heavy rainfall.

The city is alert for more pre-monsoon shower on Tuesday due to cyclonic formations above the Andaman Sea, according to the authorities.

Three people, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed on Monday in rain-related incidents.

Bengaluru is the home of major global technology companies, many of whom have asked their employees to work from home due to flooded roads.

Large parts of the city are flooded by heavy rainfall that started on Sunday

Many parts of the city received 100 mm (4 -in) rain on Monday, a record since 2011.

This is “rare” for Bengaluru, CS Patil, a director of the regional weather department told news agencies.

Apart from serious water enlargement and traffic that disrupts daily life, heavy rainfall has also caused damage to property.

In one of the most important IT courses in the city, the composite wall of a software company-I-Zed-on Monday morning collapsed, killing a 35-year-old female employee.

Videos also showed commuters who wade through knee-deep water, with different cars parked in water with water. Water has also entered houses in some parts of the city.

Authorities say that the City Corporation 210 has identified flood -sensitive areas where they worked around the clock to “straighten” the situation.

“There is no need for the people of Bengaluru to worry,” DK Shivakumar, vice -headminister of Karnataka State told reporters on Monday.

Karnataka, of which Bengaluru is the capital, is currently run by the Congrest Party. The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), which is in the opposition in the state, has accused the local government of tackling rain-related issues in the city and the state, despite the publishing of million rupees to its infrastructure.

The BJP has demanded the immediate release of 10 billion rupees ($ 117 million, £ 87.5 million) for assistance.

However, the state government has defended itself and said that these were long -term issues.

“The problems we are confronted with today are not new. They have been ignored for years, about governments and administrations,” said Shivakumar.

Floods have been a recurring phenomenon in Bengaluru in recent years. Experts partially blame the rapid construction of the lakes and wetlands of the city and poor city planning for the crisis.

Civil servants are confronted with serious criticism of the recurring problem on social media with many complaining about the crumbling infrastructure of the city and roads.
