Vladimir Putin has led the Russian Victory Day commemorations with a parade on the red square, amidst safety after Ukrainian strikes on Moscow.
The Xi Jinping of China joined the Russian president when he told thousands of soldiers that Russia remembered the lessons of the Second World War.
He also used his speech to link the war to today’s full invasion of Ukraine and said that the whole of Russia was behind what he called the “special military operation” – now well into the fourth year.
