Roof of historic Ming Dynasty Tower collapses in China

Hundreds of tiles have fallen from the roof of an age -old tower in the Chinese province of Anhui, which hit the ground near visitors to the site.

Eyewitness images showed parts of the roof that collapsed and just missed a number of people.

Local media quoted a statement from Fengyang County Culture and Tourism Bureau that said that no one was injured in the incident, which took place on Monday around 6.30 pm (11.30 BST).

The drum tower – reportedly the largest in China – was built in 1375 during the Ming Dynasty, but had undergone an extensive rebuilding in 1995.

Civil servants for the province, about 200 miles away from the capital Beijing, said that an investigation was underway, in a position shared on China’s Instant Messaging -app, WeChat.

Fengyang County is known as the birthplace of the founder of the Ming -Dynasty -Keizer -Hongwu -Keizer, Zhu Yuanzhang.

Local authorities reportedly moved bystanders of the scene after the collapse and insured the area. The research will look at the design and construction of the repair project, added a statement from local media.

Reports say that supervision units have also been sent to the site with experts who have been invited to help with the research and verification process.

The tower is closed while repairs are carried out, with a reopening date that is announced at a later time.
