Russia is launching a large air raid on Ukraine capital

At least 14 people were injured in a large Russian rocket and drone attack on Kiev, say the city authorities.

Russia launched 250 drones and 14 ballistic rockets to Kiev, said Ukraine Air Force, causing fires in residential buildings. It was one of the largest combined air strikes in the city since the war began. The Air Force said it had fallen six rockets and 245 drones.

“With every such attack, the world becomes more secure that the cause of extending the war is in Moscow,” said the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zensky on X.

The barrage arrived hours after Russia and Ukraine participated in a prisoner exchange after conversations between the officials of the two countries in Turkey.

Zensky described a “difficult night” and said that there had been burns and explosions in Kiev with houses, companies and cars that are damaged by strikes or falling debris.

Olha Chyrukha, a 64-year-old local resident who lives just outside of Central Kyiv, said Reuters News Agency: “I wish they agreed to a ceasefire. To bombard people like these-rare children. My three-year-old granddaughter was frightened.”

Zensky said that only “additional sanctions that are aimed at the most important sectors of the Russian economy” could encourage Moscow to agree to a cease -the fire.

Last week Russia said that Ukraine had launched hundreds of exploding drones in the country, including strikes about Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Defense said that 485 drones had been shot.
