An official investigation into the accident – which Kim described as a “criminal act” – started, the state media reported on Friday.
None of the reports mentioned victims or injuries as a result of Thursday’s incident in the eastern port city of Chongjin.
KCNA, the official news agency of Noord -Korea, triggered the damage in a report on Friday and said that it was “not serious” and that, unlike first reports, there were no gaps on the bottom of the ship.
“The trunk stream was scratched and a certain amount of seawater flowed through the rescue channel in the rear part,” KCNA reported.
The manager of the shipyard, Hong Kil Ho, was called by law enforcement officers, said it.
It would take about 10 days to restore the side of the destroyer, according to KCNA.
Kim said on Thursday that the accident was caused by “absolute carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empirism.”
He added that those who have made “irresponsible mistakes” will be treated during a plenary meeting next month.
It is not clear which punishment they can be confronted with, but the authoritarian state has a sad human rights record.
It is unusual for Noord -Korea to make local accidents publicly known – although it has done a handful of times in the past.
This specific accident comes weeks after North Korea unveiled a comparable 5000 tons of destroyer, the Choe Hyon.
Kim had called that warship a “breakthrough” when modernizing the navy of Noord -Korea and said that it would be used early next year.
