Smokey Robinson under criminal investigation after claims for sexual abuse

Motown legend Smokey Robinson is being investigated in Los Angeles for accusations of sexual violence.

The Sheriff’s Department of Los Angeles County confirmed that it had started a formal investigation into the allegations and said that the probe was in the “early stages”.

The investigation comes after a lawsuit was filed last week by four anonymous housekeepers against the 85-year-old singer-songwriter, who accused him of sexual battery, false prison sentence, negligence and gender violence.

Robinson has denied the allegations. His lawyer said that those behind the accusations are after the musician’s money, and he welcomed the police investigation “because exposure to the truth is a powerful thing”.

“We are convinced that a determination will be made that Mr. Robinson has done nothing wrong, and that this is a desperate attempt to harm public opinion and make a media circus even more than the plaintiffs were able to create,” said the lawyer, Christopher Frost, in a statement to the BBC.

He argued that the police investigation was only opened because the claimants have submitted a formal report with their allegations and said mentioned in the lawsuit and accused of contributing to a hostile working environment.

The Sheriff department told the BBC in a statement that her special Victims agency ‘Active research was into criminal allegations with William Robinson aka’ Smokey Robinson ‘. The investigation is in the early stages and we have no further comment. “

The Women have brought a lawsuit In Los Angeles Superior Court on 6 May under the pseudonyms Jane Doe 1, 2, 3 and 4.

In the legal steps of 27 pages, they claim various incidents that, according to them, date from 2006, and accuse Mr Robinson of putting them under pressure to sex.

All four women, who are of Spanish descent, said they had not come up so far because they feared that they will lose their livelihood, family reprisals or shame. Some were concerned that the allegations could influence their immigration status.

They are looking for at least $ 50 million (£ 38 million) in compensation and a jury court.

Robinson was the first hit in Motown and wrote number one records such as Mary Wells ‘My Guy and the Temptations’ My Girl.

He was both a talent explorer for the record label and one of the most prominent recording artists in itself, known for songs and songs of my tears, shopping around and tears of a clown.

He has places in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and claims to have credits on more than 4,000 songs.

The women’s lawyers held a press conference last week after submitting the court case and accused Mr Robinson of being a “serial and sick rapist” who “must be stopped”.

Mr. Robinson’s legal team called the event a “bizarre” attempt “To call in the public as an ignorant participant in the media circus that they are trying to create”.

“We will have more to say in the coming days if we make our legal reaction, and on time Mr. Robinson will respond in his own words,” said Frost, and noted that the legal team of the musician is planning to be rejected.

“We ask everyone who follows this case to reserve the judgment when the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold.”
