The newest crime statistics in South Africa claim that a genocide is being committed against white people, the police have said -minister of the country.
The claim that has been widely in discredit was reinforced by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday in an extraordinary encounter with his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa.
Trump told Ramaphosa that white farmers in South Africa were killed and “continued”.
On Friday, the South African police -Minister Senzo Mchunu said that between January and March five of the six people who were killed on farms were black and was one white.
The white victim lived on a farm, while the black people who were killed were two farmer’s owners, two employees and one manager.
Mchunu said that in the previous quarter, from October to December 2024, 12 murders were registered on farms. One of the 12 – an owner of the farm – was white.
It is the first time that the crime statistics of South Africa have been demolished by race, but Mchunu said he had done this as a result of the recent claims of the genocide.
“The history of farmhouses in the country has always been distorted and reported in an unbalanced way,” he said.
In February, a South African judge rejected the idea of a genocide as “clearly imagined” and “not real”, when he ruled in an inheritance case with a rich benefactor to a white supremacist group.
Claims of genocide in South Africa have been circulating for years and attracts the attention of right-wing groups in the US.
Ramaphosa visited the White House on Wednesday in an attempt to reset the relations after Trump granted asylum to nearly 60 Afrikaners – descendants of mainly Dutch settlers who arrived in the 17th century – and said they were “victims of unjust racial discrimination”.
During the meeting, which was broadcast live, Trump Ramaphosa hindered videos and images that were meant to support his claim of a white genocide.
The BBC discovered that this contained “proof” countless lies.
“We respect the US as a country, we respect the people in that country and for President Trump, but we have no respect for the genocide story. It is completely unfounded and not substantiated,” Mchunu said Friday.
Crime remains a huge problem in South Africa, acknowledged the minister, but added that all parts of society are affected.
MCHUNU also rejected allegations, repeated by Trump, that the government expropriate the expropriated country by white farmers expropriation.
Earlier this year, Ramaphosa signed a controversial law that enabled the government to grab private property in some circumstances without compensation. The South African government says that no country has yet been seized under the law.
The law follows years of calls for land reform in South Africa, where the white minority has the vast majority of private land and wealth in the country, for more than 30 years since the racist system of apartheid ended.
Relations between South Africa and the US have been established since Trump took office in January. In addition to offering asylum to Afrikaners, the American leader has lowered the help to South Africa and driven out his ambassador.
