The French minister apologizes with fans of Liverpool via Champions League chaos

The former Minister of the Interior of France has apologized for the first time The 2022 Fiasco in the Stade de France Those Liverpool -football supporters wrongly saw the fault of a riot.

“The scapegoat was easy to find, and I now apologize for Liverpool supporters. They were completely right to be injured. It was a mistake and a failure.”

The police used tear gas on Liverpool supporters and some fans were attacked by Bendes French youth.

In a long interview on the Legend YouTube channel, Darmanin said that the night was “the biggest failure” of his career.

“What I didn’t appreciate that evening was that the real problem did not come from English supporters, but from offenders who robbed fans.

“Our security schemes were not designed for that possibility. We had riot police … with large boots and shields – not great to run. What you need at that kind of delinquency is officers in running shoes.

“We were wrong. We expected a war of (football) hooligans, and what we received instead were robbers.”

In their first remarks after the problems, Darmanin and police chief Didier said the lall that the dangerous crush in the stadium was largely caused by fans of Liverpool in the possession of fake tickets.

The claim was then invalidated in an independent report on behalf of UEFA.

In another part of the interview, Darmanin said that “there was no more safe place” in France – a comment that dropped fire from the hard -right opposition.

“What many French people can see is that (violence) has become general, it has spread. It is no longer alone in places where you ever looked for potential problems.

“Nowadays you can see that the smallest rural village has experience with cocaine or cannabis.”

National Rally MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy noted that Darmanin has been in the government since the first elections of President Emmanuel Macron in 2017.

Tungay said he “treated the French as Imbeciles, and made all these so -called heavy explanations when the record is so catastrophic”.

Darmanin, who is 42 and of political law, did nothing in the interview to dispel speculation that he could be in the race to replace Macron in 2027.

“I think of the presidential elections? The answer is yes,” he said.

“That does not mean that I will become a candidate, but it does mean that I have ambitions for the country to do better than what I see now.”
