Civil servants in Palm Springs, California investigate an explosion on Saturday morning that one person killed and damaged a fertility clinic.
The explosion happened just before 11:00 local time (19:00 BST) less than a mile from the center of Palm Springs, near various companies, including the American reproductive centers.
In a statement, the fertility clinic said that no one was damaged from their facility, but that one person was killed and several were injured.
The Governor of California Gavin Newsom said in a statement that the state coordinates with local and federal authorities to respond to the incident.
The American reproductive centers in Palm Springs said that a vehicle had exploded in the parking lot near the building.
It is unclear what the cause of the explosion was.
The American lawyer for the central district of California Bill Essayli said in a position on X that the Ministry of Justice “was” aware of the explosion that took place this morning in Palm Springs “.
He said the FBI is on site and investigates “this was a deliberate act”.
The fertility clinic said that their lab, including all eggs and embryos, remains “completely safe and undamaged”.
“We carry out a complete safety inspection and have confirmed that our activities and sensitive medical areas were not influenced by the explosion,” said the fertility clinic in its statement.
The BBC has contacted the Palm Springs Police Department for comment.
