US President Donald Trump has said that he is “not happy” with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, after Moscow’s largest air raid on Ukraine.
In a rare reprimand, Trump said: “What happened to him? He kills many people.” Later he called Putin “Absolutely crazy”.
The Ukrainian President VolodyMyr Zensky said earlier that Washington’s “silence” about recent Russian attacks encouraged Putin and encouraged “strong pressure” – including stricter sanctions – on Moscow.
At least 12 people were killed and dozens injured in Ukraine at night on Sunday after Russia had fired 367 drones and rockets – The highest number in one night since Putin launched a complete invasion in 2022.
Air Sirens who warned of incoming drones and rockets again sounded in many Ukraine regions early on Monday.
At least three people, including a child, were injured in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, said Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Trump spoke late on Sunday in New Jersey in New Jersey, said about Putin: “I knew him for a long time, was always able to deal with him, but he sends rockets to cities and kills people, and I don’t like it at all.”
Shortly thereafter, Trump wrote in a message about Truth Social that Putin “has been absolutely crazy”.
“I have always said that he wants very Ukraine, not just a piece, and maybe it turns out to be correct, but if he does, this will lead to the ruin of Russia!”
But the American president also had strong words for Zensky and said that he “does not affect his country by talking as he does.”
“Everything from his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it can stop better,” wrote Trump about Zensky.
Despite the European allies of KYIV who prepared further sanctions for Russia, the US said it will either try to notice these peace talks, or “run away” if progress does not follow.
Last week Trump and Putin had a two-hour phone call to discuss a cessation-set-the-home-made one to stop the fighting.
The American president said he believed that the call had gone “very well”, and added that Russia and Ukraine negotiations would “start immediately” in the direction of a ceasefire -fires and “an end to the war”.
Ukraine has publicly agreed to a strike fire of 30 days.
Putin only said that Russia will work with Ukraine to make a “memorandum” on a “possible future peace” – a movement described by Kyiv and his European allies as delaying tactics.
The first direct Ukrainian-Russian conversations since 2022 were held on 16 May in Istanbul, Turkey.
Apart from a large prisoner of War Swap last week, there was little or no progress in bringing a pause in closer fighting.
Russia currently checks approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory. This includes the Crimea – the Southern Peninsula of Ukraine in 2014 annexed by Moscow.
