US President Donald Trump has denied that he is considering a third presidential term of office, a movement that experts agree on is forbidden under the American Constitution.
“I will become an eight-year-old president, I will become a two-time president. I always thought that was very important,” Trump told NBC’s encounter the press with Kristen Welker in an interview that was broadcast on Sunday.
Trump, 78, has said earlier that he was ‘not a joke’ about wanting to serve a third, or even fourth term as American president.
He later said that his statements were meant to troll the “fake news media”.
His company, the Trump organization, has sold “Trump 2028” hats, which feeds the speculation of armchair that he can try to remain in office after his second term ended in January 2029.
In the interview, recorded from his home in Florida on Friday, Trump said that he had many “requests” from people who asked that he is considering staying in office.
“So many people want me to do it,” Trump said, just a few days after celebrating his first 100 days of his second term.
“It is something that, as far as I know, you can’t do. I don’t know if that is constitutional that they don’t allow you to do it or something else,” Trump said.
He added that “there are many people who sell the hat of 2028”.
“But this is not something I want to do,” he said, with the list of Republicans who could take his place, including vice-president JD Vance and State Secretary Marco Rubio.
The 22nd amendment of the Constitution says that “no person will be elected more than twice in the office of the president”.
Changing the Constitution would require a two -thirds approval from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as approval of three -quarters of governments at state level.
However, some Trump supporters suggest that there is a Maas in the Constitution that has not been tested before the court.
Asked by NBC if someone approached him with these theories, brought Trump, and answered that “in a capacity of a big supporter, many people said different things”.
During the interview, Trump also rejected the criticism of his processing of the economy.
‘Look, yes. Everything is okay, “he said after his tariff plan roasted international economies, American economy to shrink for the first time since 2022.
“I said, this is a transitional period. I think we’re going to do it fantastic,” he added.
Asked if the American economy can continue to shrink, he replied: “Everything can happen. But I think we will have the greatest economy in the history of our country.”
He later added that there is a chance that rates can be permanent and tell the interviewer: “If someone thought they would come off the table, why would they build in the United States?”
Trump also denied that Americans had to prepare to see fewer goods for sale in stores, while the trade war continues.
“No, I don’t say that. I just say they don’t have to have 30 dolls. They can have three,” he said.
“They don’t have to have 250 pencils. They can have five.”
Trump was asked about the right of the fifth amendment to a decent process under the law, which guarantees certain rights to people accused of committing a crime.
Critics have said that his deportation plan has violated this process, and that his administration has removed people who have not yet been accused of a crime and have therefore had no opportunity to present a legal defense.
“Shouldn’t you maintain the Constitution of the United States as president?” asked Welker, who suggested that he could ignore the official -ed of the president, so that he must “keep, protect and defend the constitution.”
Trump replied: “I don’t know. I have to respond by saying, again, I have brilliant lawyers who work for me, and they will clearly follow what the Supreme Court said.”
Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that the White House should work to “facilitate” the return of a migrant who was accidentally deported in El Salvador. The Trump government has argued that they are missing the authority to force the Midden -American country to return him to the US.
Trump said he could not “exclude” with the help of military power to annex Greenland, but suggested that he is not considering a military attack on Canada to force the American Northern neighbor to become the 51st American state.
“I don’t see it with Canada,” said Trump, days after Canadian voters opted for a liberal party leader Mark Carney as their prime ministerIn a stunning rejection of the conservative party.
“They think we are going to protect them, and we really are,” Trump continued.
“But the truth is that they do not bear their entire share, and it is unfair towards the United States and our taxpayers.”
Carney is planned to visit Trump in the White House on Tuesday.
Trump was also asked about his decision to explain a state of emergency on his first day on his first day and whether the border is “safe”.
“We have the most safe boundary we have ever had,” he said, making Welker wondered why the emergency declaration remains in force after immigration figures showed that illegal crossings have abolished to the lowest levels in decades.
He claimed that the emergency situation is in the legal system, not on the border.
“The great emergency situation at the moment is that we have thousands of people we want to eliminate, and we have some judges who want everyone to go to court,” he said.
“It is a general emergency for immigration,” Trump told NBC, adding that he has no plans to lift the order in the near future.
