US President Donald Trump will receive a luxury Jumbo, intended for use as a presidential plane, from the royal family of Qatar.
According to American media reports, the aircraft is not immediately ready for use, because it must be applied afterwards. The US government is also planning to check the gift for espionage devices.
In an unusual regulation, the aircraft will also be donated to the Presidential Library of Trump at the end of his term of office, Sources told our media.
The news of the gift comes when Trump will visit Qatar this week when he starts a trip to the Midden -Oost, the first major foreign journey of his second term.
The value of the gift and its treatment will certainly raise legal and ethical questions among critics.
The current fleet of the White House comprises two Boeing 747-200B aircraft tailor-made for presidential use with special communication equipment and functions such as a passenger cabin, office and meeting room, according to the US Air Force. The planes have been in use since 1990 and 1991.
Air Force One aircraft usually transfers to other administrations. According to the National Archives, only the Reagan Presidential Library has an Air Force One Jet and these seven presidents flew before he was donated.
Qatar is said to offer the Trump administration a version of a Boeing 747-8, a much newer model that ABC Reports has been upgraded to a “flying palace”.
Boeing was contracted to provide the White House newer aircraft, but Trump Klagged earlier this year that the company was behind schedule. His administration had initially negotiated with Boeing for two specialized 747-8 aircraft during his first administration.
The aircraft maker said that the aircraft would only be available in 2027 or 2028.
“No, I am not happy with Boeing. It takes them a long time to do, you know, Air Force One, we spent that contract long ago,” Trump said in February.
“We can buy a plane or get a plane or something.”
Trump had a positive diplomatic relationship with Qatar during his first term, including an announcement in 2019 that the country would make a large purchase of American planes.
Qatar has also given private jets as gifts to other countries, such as a luxury plane given to Turkey in 2018.
