US says that Trump and Putin need for breakthrough in Ukraine interviews

Top American diplomat Marco Rubio says that he has no high expectations for peace talks that are held between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey and claimed that Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir had to meet Putin.

“It is my assessment that I don’t think we will get a breakthrough here until President Trump and President Putin communicate directly on this subject,” he said, speaking after a meeting of Foreign Affairs in South Turkey.

Previously Volodyymyr confirmed that Zensky Ukraine would send a delegation to meet Russian officials in Istanbul, but accused Russia of not treating them seriously.

Speaking with reporters in Ankara, he criticized the “low” Moscow delegation. The head, presidential assistant Vladimir Medinsky, insisted that the Kremlin team “had all the necessary competencies”.

Earlier in the day, Trump – who visits the Middle East – also suggested that considerable progress in peace talks was unlikely until he and Putin met personally.

Asked by the BBC on board Air Force One if he was disappointed by the level of the Russian delegation, he said: “Look, nothing will happen to Putin and I come together”.

“He didn’t go if I wasn’t there and I don’t believe something is going to happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I come together, but we will have to solve it because too many people die,” he added.

Trump said he would attend conversations in Turkey on Friday if it was “fitting”, but later said he would probably return to Washington.

Delegations from Turkey, the US, Ukraine and Russia would meet on Thursday in Istanbul for the first face-to-face Ukraine-Russian conversations since 2022. From Thursday evening there was no time for them to find. Some reports suggest that they can now happen on Friday.

Vladimir Putin presented direct conversations in Istanbul on 15 May in response to a call by European leaders and Ukraine for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.

In the meantime, Medinsky reporters in Istanbul told that Russia saw the conversations as a “continuation” of failed negotiations in 2022 that took place shortly after Russia had launched his neighbor’s full invasion.

“The task of direct negotiations with the Ukrainian side is to reach the establishment of long -term peace sooner or later by eliminating the basic causes of the conflict,” Medinsky said.

The Istanbul interviews mark the first direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine since the failed effort in 2022.

Members of the turkey delegation of Moscow were involved in those conversations and Russia indicated that it wants to grab where they had gone.

The discussioning conditions include demands on Ukraine to become a neutral country, to defeat the size of his military and leaving NATO membership ambitions – conditions that Ukraine has repeatedly rejected as donated to capitulation.

Fighting in Ukraine is raging further, with Russia said that his troops had conquered two more villages in the East Dontesk region on Thursday.
