A double American and German citizen was arrested on Sunday because he reportedly tried to break down the American embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, according to the Ministry of Justice.
Officials said they had arrested Joseph Neumayer, 28, at John F Kennedy Airport in New York. He was deported by the Israeli authorities after he was found with explosive devices in a backpack at the embassy.
Mr NeMeyer appeared in court on Sunday and is being held in prison, the Ministry of Justice said.
“This suspect has been accused of planning a devastating attack aimed at our embassy in Israel, who threatens death for Americans and the life of President Trump,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
The arrest comes only a few days after a shooter killed two Israeli embassy staff outside a Jewish museum in Washington DC.
Federal officials say that Mr Neumayer arrived in Israel in April and on 19 May on his way to the American embassy in Tel Aviv with a dark colored backpack.
The 28-year-old spit on an embassy scientist while walking past, the Ministry of Justice said. When the guard tried to hold him, Mr Neumayer is said to run away and left a backpack with three Molotov cocktails, small bombs made with flammable liquids that are meant to start fires as soon as they are lit and thrown.
The police later found Mr NeUmeyer in his hotel where he was arrested, the Ministry of Justice said.
Officials say that he had posted on his social media account to “burn the embassy in Tel Aviv” and had called “Death to America, Death to Americans”.
Officials say that Mr NeUmeyer also threatened to kill Trump in posts on social media because of another report that is assumed to be connected to him.
Mr. NeUmeyer was sent back to the US on Sunday, where he was arrested. He is confronted with a maximum of 20 years in prison if he is convicted.
Last Wednesday, a young couple, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, shot out of an event in the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC.
The police identified the suspect as the 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, of which they say it called “Free Palestine” after he had shot the couple.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Name is expected to attend a memorial in Israel on Monday for the victims.
