The test of Sean “Diddy” Combs, one of the most successful rappers and music moguls in the US, starts jury selection in New York on Monday.
The charges against him include racketeering conspiracy, sex trade and transport to enter into prostitution. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
The rapper is also confronted with dozens of civil lawsuits of people who accuse him of the use of his power to drug people, mistreatment, rape, intimidate and silence.
Mr. Combs did not owe the criminal prosecution and rejected the individual lawsuits as attempts “for a fast payment day”.
MR Combs – who also recorded the names Puffy, Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Love and Brother Love – came into the hip -hop scene in the hip -hop scene in the 1990s.
His early music career -success included helping the career of Mary J Blige and Christopher Wallace – aka Biggie Smalls, of the Notorious Big Big
His music label Bad Boy Records became one of the most important labels in rap and expanded with Faith Evans, Mon $ E, 112, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.
Mr. Combs also had a productive business career outside the music, including a deal with the British beverage company Diodeo to promote the French Wodka brand Cîroc.
In 2023 he released his fifth album The Love album: Off The Grid and earned his first solo nomination at the Grammy Awards. He was also named a global icon at the MTV Awards.
In the federal criminal case, Mr. Combs is accused of racketeering -entry, two accusations of sex trade and two transport dependence to enter into prostitution.
Many of the most serious allegations relate to the racketeering -entry.
It includes accusations of kidnapping, drugs and compelling women into sexual activities, sometimes with the help of firearms or threats of violence.
In a raid on his mansion in Los Angeles, the police found stocks that they said it was intended for use in orgies that are known as “freak offs”, including drugs and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil.
Separately, MR Combs are confronted with a number of lawsuits that accuse him of rape and abuse.
Tony Buzbee, a lawyer in Texas who deals with some of these cases, said that more than 100 women and men from the US have filed lawsuits against the rap -mogul or will do this.

“In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr Combs has never been sexually abused or traded – male or female, adult or minor.”
Diddy’s lawyers later submitted a motion to reject part of the federal indictment in which he is accused of transport to enter into prostitution. His team argued that he was unfairly focused because of his race.
In a hearing in New York a week before the trial, his lawyers told the court that The rapper led the “lifestyle” of a “swinger” and was not a criminal.
They said he thought it was “appropriate” to have several sex partners, including sex workers.
During the same hearing, public prosecutors revealed that Mr. Combs had rejected a plea.
Mr. Combs was held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, since his arrest on September 16, 2024.
His lawyers have argued for his release, referring to the “horrible” conditions of the prison.
Critics describe the prison as overcrowded and understaffed, with a culture of violence.
A federal judge in New York denied the certificate request and described Mr Combs as a “serious escape risk”.
Prosecutors claimed that MR Combs has violated the prison rules By contacting potential witnesses.
