A woman was killed and, according to the Polish police, a man was seriously injured in an ax attack at the University of Warsaw.
A 22-year-old Polish man was arrested in connection with the attack that the university has called a “huge tragedy”.
Both victims worked at the university. In a statement, the university said that the dead of the woman had been a member of the staff and that the injured man worked in security.
A motive is not yet known for the attack.
The police said the attacker went to the university campus at 6:40 pm local time (16: 40gmt).
From there he went to a university auditorium, according to a spokesperson for the public prosecutor.
Few details have emerged about what happened then.
“We express our great sorrow and sympathy for the family and loved ones,” said the university rector in an A declaration.
May 8 will be a day of mourning for the college, the rector announced.
Another Polish news output, Gazeta Wyborcza, says daily that the attacker was a third -year law student.
In the aftermath of the attack, reporters from Reuters saw the auditorium off while police buses gathered.
