The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zensky says he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday “personally” in Istanbul for conversations about ending the war.
His position came shortly after Donald Trump had demanded Ukraine with Putin’s range of direct conversations between the two countries in Turkey.
“It makes no sense to extend the murders. And I am waiting for Putin in Türkiye on Thursday. Personally,” wrote Zensky.
He had said earlier that his country was open for conversations with Russia, but only after a cease -the fire was present.
Western powers shouted to a 30-day break in fighting to start on Monday After European leaders led the so -called “Coalition of the Willing” in Kiev on Saturday.
Putin’s range of direct conversations followed that intervention.
On Sunday, Trump then published on social media that Ukraine should agree to this “immediately” and it would provide clarity about whether there was a way to end the war.
“At least they will be able to determine whether a deal is possible, and if this is not the case, European leaders and the US will know where everything is and can continue accordingly,” he said, adding: “Have the meeting now!”
In his position on X, Zensky said that he hoped that Russia would agree to the ceasefish before the conversations.
“We are waiting for a complete and permanent -the Fire, from tomorrow, to offer the necessary basis for diplomacy,” he said.
In a late evening on Saturday, Putin invited Ukraine to participate in ‘serious negotiations’ about the war, which began with the full invasion of Russia in Ukraine in 2022.
Putin said that he could not “exclude” that the conversations could lead to Russia and Ukraine “agreeing a new ceasefire” -but the calls for a strike -the 30 -day -fired not tackling directly.
The Russian leader said: “This would be the first step in the direction of a long -term, permanent peace, instead of a prologue for more armed hostilities after the Ukrainian armed forces have received new armament and staff, after feverish ditch and the establishment of new command costs.”
Moscow has said earlier that before Russia could consider a ceasefire -the West, the West must first stop his military aid to Ukraine.
Russia and Ukraine lasted direct negotiations in March 2022, in Istanbul, shortly after the Moscow had launched its invasion.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian president host in Kiev played in British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron of France, Friedrich Merz in Germany and Donald Tusk van Polen, who later called Trump to discuss their plan.
Sir Keir later told the BBC that the American president was “absolutely clear” that their suggestion of an immediate cease -the fires was a “requirement to be met”.
At a press conference with Zelensky, they warned that “new and massive” sanctions would be imposed on the Russian energy and bank sectors, should not agree with the unconditional cease-fire of 30 days of “in the air, at sea and on land”.
