The school has already given surrender to the transition as independent in football, which requires NCAA approval.
By moving as independent, Sacramento State joined the FBS conference in the future to join the FBS conference. Hornets need surrender because they do not pass with the invitation to the conference.
The school is sitting on the Top-20 media market and was aggressive in hiring coaches and in the Nile. Hornets hired the former Unlv offensive coordinator Brennan Marion as head coach in December and Hired a basketball program former Sacramento Kings Star Mike Bibby as head coach.
Sacramento State plans to play football on Big Sky for the 2025 season, which is expected to be the last program at the FCS conference. Hornets had a record of 3-9 last season and at the last 12-team conference ended up in a tie with a brand 1-7.
If everything is approved, Hornets would be unfit for Postseason football for 2025 and 2026. Then they would be an eligible football postseason for the 2027 season.
