Brandel Chamblee thinks that Rory McILroy has his best chance of winning Masters, but she believes that Augusta National is “Nemesis” that evokes the worst golf of Northern Irish.
McIlroy comes to Georgia and is still looking for an elusive victory needed to complete his career Grand Slam, after he registered the 21 best 10 best since his success in PGA in 2014.
World 2 is sitting on top of the FedExcup ranking and with two PGA Tour victories this year, after his victory in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am season with the players in March.
Revealed to watch Devil Wears Prada – based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel – Night before winning Monday at TPC Sawgrass, with Chamblee using two main characters from this movie to describe McIlroy hopes for Masters
“I would say that Augusta National is Miranda for playing Rory McILroy as Andrea Sachs,” Chamblee said in a preliminary media challenge Golf channel. “It’s his Nemesis. He brings the worst golf in Rory annually that we see almost every year.
“It was his worst golf last year at Majors, the worst golf a year ago. Two years before it was his worst golf. He will undergo there. On average, about 42 green will hit the winner and the winner will hit about 52 Greens.
“There are things about the golf course that was very problematic for him, but I would say that he would switch to a softer ball, I think, really Harken and gives us more hope for his success because he forces him to get on him.
“There is a reason why the golf world would be an enthusiastic possibility, and again from a competitive point of view, he never went to Masters, which from a competitive point of view played better or sharper.”
Mcilroy man to defeat in Augusta?
Scottie Scheffler champion ended up in the last 18 months outside the top 20 20 times, but in 2025 he stayed without victory when he started the season by injury, while the double main champion Xander Schauffele also fought for fitness.
“He won’t catch Scheffler a little more of his game than Scheffler is right now,” Chamblee added. “Xander (Schauffele) is a little out of his game.
“Augusta National is things that Collin Morikawa doesn’t fit. Ludvig Åberg is a bit out of his game.
“You go down the list and its closest competitors, those who are able to give him his biggest challenge, you could all say that they are a little out of their game – Rory has never been in a better place to go to Masters.
“From a technical point of view and mental point of view it is Rory’s.”
Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have only remained five players – since the founding of the Masters in 1934 – to complete the Grand Slam career, McIlroy had another chance to join the exclusive group.
“Only one did it (The Grand Slam) over the past 59 years – I would say it’s a testimony of a growing level of competition,” Chamblee said. “So we can tilt our caps to what Rory is trying to do. It’s one of the 12 players who won three of the four feet of a modern Grand Slam career.
“It wasn’t really that many players were very close. Arnold Palmer was approaching PGA (Championship) when he missed the putt.
“In 2018, you could look at Rory when he stood on the first tee with Patrick Reed, where it was in understanding of it, but there was a lack of success when the big straw was completed.”
