Stephen Bunting feared that he became the first player to complete the Darts Premier League season with zero points before he secured his first night victory in Berlin to get his season out of the brand.
Bunting, who was eight weeks without victory, hit nine-darter in practice and then defeated Nathan Aspinall, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price in the finals in the final when he finally broke the duck.
“To be honest, after the first victory I was so relieved to get zero points,” Bunting said Sky Sports. “I have done a lot of work for the scenes. I tried 110 percent every week, without failure.
“This is such a special moment. During the Premier League, there were times where I thought,” Could I finish zero points? “
“To get off and win the night tonight, it’s such a strange feeling.”
Bunting’s five -point move with the kind permission of his Berlin triumph means that the late run to the final in O2 in London on May 29 is not completely out of cards, with the world 5 now only eight points out of the top four.
“Let’s not get too far in front of us,” Bunting replied as he sent himself to his hopes for the playoffs.
“I think I was playing my best arrows tonight when I was relaxed and I thought the league was gone.
“It is obvious that there is still a chance that I can do the first four, but I will not put too much pressure on myself.”
Webster: Bunting will feel a million dollars
Sky Sports’ Mark Webster also described this as a “high order” to throw himself into the playoffs in the second half of the season, but he was excited to see him at least to get off.
“There is still time in the season, even though he was very diplomatic with the answer to the persecution of play -off – he’s a hard slogan,” Webster said.
“They just have to build more points because there is a huge season ahead of us and there are still a lot of Premier League arrows.
“If he wins again next week, these things can decrease. And there is Liverpool around the corner – we know how much it will mean to him that night.
“It’s still a high order for him, and he’s realistic, but he played well tonight, and next week he’ll feel much more relaxed in Manchester.”
Webster added, “I was pleased to see him win this evening. You don’t like it when the player appears and grabbed a week, a week out. He said all the right things, but he himself doubt.
“To get points tonight but win the night will feel a million dollars.”
