Former Captain Ryder Cup Paul McGinley believes that Rory McILroy may have to end his main drought from Masters to help his chance of competition competition Grand Slam.
McIlroy has not been added to his four main titles since his success in 2014, although he had 21 main 10 best 10 best during this magic and continued to win titles on PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
World No. 2 has already won twice on the PGA Tour in 2025 and is one of the popular for the opening major of the year, Live from Thursday to Sky SportsWith the Masters, the elusive major, he had to become a sixth player to finish the Grand Slam in a modern era.
McIlroy has published in the last 12 main performances, including Scott Scheffler’s second in Augusta National in 2022, and has been open in the last two, with increasing expectations that it will join it in a second.
“For eleven years, he has been hell for players for a long time,” McGinley said in a tournament media call. “How many players from the back of 2014 are still directly at the top of the world ranking, or even anywhere in the Top 10 in the world ranking?
“The strength he has, sustainability in this period of time, was absolutely phenomenal. Of course a big lady has no major.
“I personally believe it could be a springboard, and win the next main first can be the way he needs to win here in Augusta.
“Going to the first major of the year and all the attention that comes with the fact that he is in Augusta National, is at the height of his first major in 11 years, there is a lot at the height of the Grand Slam.
“Maybe there is a springboard first and it will knock one of the three big companies before it comes here with this question that will take care of.”
This year’s event is 17. McIlroy’s performance in Augusta National, where during the last round of the 2011 competition, the leadership of four shots was great and ended inside 10 TOP 10 in the last 11 years.
Tiger Woods has said earlier that McILroy, who finished Grand Slam, will “definitely happen” at some point, even though McGinley warns that – just as he has a great opportunity – is far from sure.
“No one has the right to win masters and we saw phenomenal players coming and leave and not win there,” McGinley added. “I can think of Ernie Els and Greg Norman, who had games and skills that you think would be appropriate to win there.
“If (McIlroy) does not win masters, it is still a phenomenal career he had. Yes, it would be a pity that he did not win the Grand Slam because it is the elite of the elite.
“Building with two or three would be great, but being in the elite six is something special. Knock and deal with the pressure that the sixth person and the pressure on victory in Augud is difficult. It’s a huge amount on the shoulders of someone.
“Show me a golfer in the world who wouldn’t want to be in Rory Mcilroy’s shoes who would have to deal with it?
Things McILroy’s Way for Masters?
McIlroy watched the victory in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am with playoff victory for players, with this early success-spol with a slow start to the season many of his expected challenges-McGinley is positive about the 35-year-old chances.
“Without trying to accumulate too much pressure on Rory on what is there, there are a few things that are equal to at the moment,” McGinley admitted. “But they have stood up in the past, remembers and things did not work for him.
“Not only Rory wins two of the biggest events on the PGA Tour, the fact that he also won her with his game” B “is new. This is Rory McILroy’s development and it is different than what we have seen before.
“I think the other would be that his greatest opponents, boys who would expect to be really demanding, are a bit out of their game, and none of them show a huge amount of form.
“The biggest challenge for Rory is mental. I know Bob Rotella has had a huge impact on it in the last 18 months and I think it will now have it very well prepared. This is not the first rodeo to work in the Masters now had two or three runs.
“Two or three of these things that are knocked down a little flourish. I won’t say too much, and I’m not going to say dizziness, but has woken a little that this year he has a strong chance compared to other years.”
