Former World Champion F1 Jacques Villeneuve said Jack Doohan was driving “despair” after it was revealed that the mistake led to his huge crash in the second practice of the Japanese Grand Prix.
Doohan lost control of high -speed turn 1 on his second flying bike Suzuka after Alpine decided to run Ryo Hirakawa’s reserve driver at his home race in the first training.
Initially, it looked as if his alpine car from below, but careful repetition control showed that Dr was still open to his back wing.
On low fuel, 1 V Suzuka is generally flat, so the drivers of the non -brake. DRS is automatically closed when the driver touches the brakes, so it goes to the first corner, the driver must manually close the flap by pressing the button on the steering wheel.
Doohan did not, which caused him to lose his hit and went into a great rotation before he hit the wall.
“We were all relieved to see Jack leaving his Free Practice 2 incident and glad he’s fine after his preventive checks,” said Alpine Team, Oliver Oakes.
“It was an incorrect assessment that they would not close the drs on Turn 1 ..
Doohan added, “First I was all right after the incident. It was hard, something that surprised me, and I would learn from it.
“I know the team has a lot of work to repair the car until tomorrow, so thank you in advance for their efforts. I focus on tomorrow, where we will have free practice 3 to prepare for the qualification.”
Caused “despair” to make doohan a costly mistake?
Doohan came under pressure until 2025 after Alpine signed Franco Colapinto, which led to speculation that Argentin was sorted as a replacement.
The 22 -year -old man collapsed from his home Australian Grand Prix and ended 13 a week later in China.
“The problem is that he is known before the first race that is unlikely to finish the season,” said the F1 F1 F1 Champion Jacques Villeneuve Sky Sports F1.
“It was under huge pressure (Alpine Boss) Flavio Briatore, especially with Colapinto, who waited there in the wings, and writing was on the wall. And his management showed despair, he had to prove that at least (Pierre) gas, so they should hold it.
“When he has been told,” Do a few races, but then you will probably be replaced “… you can see it in his ride. It’s not comfortable. And when the driver is psychologically in this situation, driving will not be natural and small mistakes will start to take place. ”
Could Lawson-Tsunoda Swap Impact Alpine and Doohan?
Doohan, who is a one -year agreement in Alpine, finished second in Formula 2 Championship in 2023 before spent almost the whole season on the secondary track last year.
But when Esteban Ocon left Alpine soon, he was called for the Grand Prix Abu Dhabi.
Sky Sports F1 ‘With Naomi Schiff, he thinks that Red Bull’s decision to exchange Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunod could then have an impact on Doohan.
“Talking at the weekend was how Liam was degraded after two races, and I think he can sometimes inspire other teams to decide on hard decisions soon,” Schiff said.
“We do not know how many races Jack must prove. It is quite harsh to come to such a circuit and pull it out of FP1 (for Hirakawu), which is so crucial around the song that is so technical when they have to learn the car, learn the characteristics around the perimeter.
“I wonder why they didn’t put Pierra out of the car. He knows this song, knows the car, he has been here several times. It’s harsh.”
