The Rangers defensive weaknesses were again laid on the defeat of 2-0 against the Hibernian side, which expanded its undefeated run in Scottish premiere to 16 games.
Hibees Dylan Levitt’s midfielder opened scoring in the eighth minute with a drive that passed too easily through the goalkeeper Gersa Jack Butland.
Rangers lost the opening two goals in five of the last seven matches – four out of six under the new boss Barry Ferguson – and required a comeback again.
However, the striker Martin Boyle ran in the 69th minute to record the first Hibs victory in Govan in seven years, because the unrelated home party first recorded the fifth consecutive home loss.
Ferguson, commissioned by the end of the season after replacing Philippe Clement in February, he still has to win in Ibrox in three games as the head of Gers.
Rangers hosts the Spanish outfit athletic Bilbao in the first stage of the European League quarterfinals on Thursday evening, when they will be without suspended defender John Souttar and midfielder Muhammad Domande, and somehow have to find a way to keep the door closed with the butland Jitters.
Before the game for the GERS fans with the return of Winger Vaclav Cerny after the problem of hamstring, there was a support.
It may not be surprising that visitors have not changed and in the opening stages they looked at lightness before the leadership took.
Souttar headed for a clear throw -in from Jack Iedale, and fell to the International Levitt of Wales, who touched before he started a 25 yard shot, which Butland, for several goals admitted in the last games, let into the net.
The Rangers reaction was weak.
Hibs mixed back behind the ball and the home side tried to break, which brought the inevitable groan from the stands.
In the 28th minute ended a great move involving Cerny, Captain James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers with Gers Striker shot blocked by HIBS Jordan Smith for Horn, who came to nothing.
Then Dessers went high above the bar under the pressure of Easter advocate Rocky Bushiri after Hamza Igamane was sent before the Tavernier free kick just cleaned the bar, as well as a shot from Desers, who had the next day.
Just before an hour’s mark, Dessers ran before Smith hit with unconvincing efforts, but was well out.
VAIR checked the possible Hibs punishment when the ball seemed to come out of the Tavernier arm before Josh Campbell was replaced, but no action was accepted.
On the other hand, the Rangers replace Nedim Bajrami, on the blacks, struck the bar drive.
Campbell then ran into the acres of space, but a wide goal went, and when Boyle ran to Jordan Obit Pass in the 69th minute, put the ball over the legs of Butland, but was tuned offside – only to confirm the target and celebrations of HIBS.
Boyle had another opportunity to break, but this time Butland was clear, but a third did not require the party of David Gray, who moved from strength to the third place, while it was another completely unsatisfactory Rangers display.
Ferguson Rages: This is not the Rangers team
Guardians Interim boss Barry Ferguson:
“Worse than disappointment. God, where should I start? How long do we have?
“This is not the Rangers team. Miles from the Rangers team. That’s your bread and butter.
“I said that I feel I repeat. European games, Celtic games are the simplest games they get up to. These are the games that this group of players are fighting with, and today it was obvious.
“You play for Glasgow Rangers. If you can’t get to football games, you shouldn’t play football. Especially here, you’ll come to such a place.
“The brilliant stadium and supporters packed on the rafters who get behind you, and we introduced it. As you probably see or hear, I got angry.
“I realized what we had to go from now to the end of the season. And it may not be nice to watch.
“As a fan of Rangers, who comes to Ibrox, you want to see freely flowing and attractive football.
“I don’t think we can do it. So I have to go away and think long and hard, what way we get closer to it with my employees.
“But I have a really good idea how to make now at the end of the season. I will come back and fur. I don’t want to see anyone.
“I asked them, it hurts you? That’s my question for them.
“Yeah, there will be a number of changes on Thursday evening. And I can say that now.”
Gray: A massive victory
Hibs boss David Gray:
“It’s massive, clearly, and if you look at (other) results, we had to win to make sure we stayed third.
“I told all players before the performance level that is necessary to come here and win.
“History tells you that it is a really difficult place for the team that will come. 2018 was the last time we came here and won in the league, so the level of the desired performance, I certainly got it for every player today.
“I am pleased with players because they fully deserved it.”
