Top-Seed Jessica Pegula defeated American Sofia Kenin 6-3 7-5 to win the Charleston Open title.
In the first all-American final at the tournament since 1990, Pegula showed a great promise to defeat her opponent in direct sets to win her second title of the season and eighth of her career.
From the beginning, Pegula looked strong and broke its opponent in the opening game, but Kenin resisted and managed to save two points from the break from 2-2.
Kenin then forced momentum to her favor and saved the break point in her next service game to hold and take the lead for the first time in the match.
However, Kenin could not follow when she dropped the service twice, allowing Pegula to claim the opening set in just over half an hour.
Pegula, who lost the finals of Miami Open for Aryna Sabalenko a week ago, fought with her to serve in the second set, which allowed Kenin to cross forward.
Kenin played on her strengths with several brilliant backhand shots and was on the verge of enforcing the referee when she served for 5-2, but Pegula imposed three points to brilliant return before winning six consecutive games to seal the victory and claim the trophy.
