Augusta, Ga. – Tiger Woods’ heritage in Augusta, Georgia, will include more than five green jackets that won in Masters in his career.
August Fred Ridley, chairman of the National Golf Club, announced on Monday that Woods and his design company TGR were designing a new nine -hole short playground on the patch, the former city golf course August, where many of the Caddies who worked Masters learned to play Golf.
In addition, the Woods’ TGR Foundation Foundation will open its fourth Laboratory TGR Learning in Augusta, which will provide access to science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (Steam) and other opportunities for students in Richmond County. Augusta National will provide funds for the construction and ongoing operation of the Laboratory Lab.
“We recognize the importance of deepening Tiger’s heritage in August As Masters, and we felt that this was a permanent way we could be forever associated with the tiger and everything he did at Masters, and now everything he will do in this community,” Ridley said in a press conference on Monday.
Ridley said he was playing golf with Woods in Augusta National before 2024 Masters when he first told him about the plan of the club for the renovation of the patch.
“It was clear when I shared the concept that it somehow aroused his interest, and that was the kind of beginning of conversation, a dialogue that took place between our organizations, and then several meetings and the idea just grew from what we did, Tiger and TGR,” Ridley said. “Then he moved a little to the discussion of the big idea of Lab TGR Learning Lab, which is just very exciting for me.”
Woods, who last won the Masters in 2019, announced on May 11 that he had undergone surgery after tearing his left Achilles tendon while growing at home to play in Masters. It would be his 27. Start in Masters.
“The partnership with Augusta National Golf Club is really special,” Woods said in a statement. “My passion for education and golf has long dates back to Augusta National and Augustus. This is a transformation opportunity to strengthen the next generation and provide meaningful educational programming and access to a fun and affordable golf. I am excited to work with Augusta National and see how both projects become reality.
Augusta National Golf Club was hired by architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling to re -propose the 18 -hole patch playground, which was first opened in 1928. The logo of the new club will include the head of cabbage; Local residents kindly called the patch course, because the long -time manager of the Red Douglas course was 14. Green and later near 10. The renovation of the patches has already begun and will include a new range of driving, short gaming facilities, clubhouse, outdoor pavilion and premises in the classroom for educational programs.
Woods’ nine -hole playground, a loop on the patch, will also be on the land located on the newly named Jim Dent Way. Dent was Caddy in Augusta National and in the 80’s and 90s.
“Caddies in Augusta are part of our heritage and we certainly intend to continue to honor them on the patch,” Ridley said. “They were a big part of this history. I know those who are still around are very excited about the project.”
Augusta National hopes to open a patch of the public around the Masters next year, while TGR Learning Lab is scheduled to open on the site of a closed elementary school in 2028.
