The Masters Fields had disrupted the main preparation after the storms saw that most of the Monday training round had canceled in Augusta National.
The tournament officials warned on Sunday evening that bad weather could disrupt Monday’s game and make a statement that Gates would not be open as planned, confirming the next morning that the patrons will be able to enter at 8:00 local time (13:00 UK).
In the morning, the weather warning signs were exhibited, with the “unfavorable weather conditions” saw the pauses of the game at 11.25 hours (4.25 hours in the UK) and the patrons said to evacuate the land.
The heavy rain and the threat of lightning continued for several hours, with storms forecast for the rest of the afternoon before turning to showers, which led to tournament officials who announced at 15:00 (20:00 British time) that the course would not open again for patrons.
Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and Masters, said: “We are disappointed that our patrons could not fully enjoy today’s training round, but the safety of all in Augusta National is our highest priority and was a decisive factor in the decision.
“We are looking forward to seeing our Monday patrons next year, as well as to celebrate the beautiful 89. The championship tournament ahead of us this week.”
Monday tickets will be sent in May and will have the opportunity to buy tickets for Mondays on Monday. Further information will be included at the time of refund.
The champion Scottie Scheffler champion was seen to practice within reach on Monday morning, while Texas Children’s Houston Open Champion Min Woo Lee and Scottish Robert Macintyre were among those who were suspended.
What is the prognosis for Masters?
On Monday, it is predicted to the thumb and a half of the rain, on Sunday evening, although the weather is expected to improve in the last two training days before the opening major of the year.
Tuesdays are expected to be usually sunny and fresh, albeit colder than the previous two days, while Wednesday will offer quieter winds and another light day.
The conditions are set so that they are almost perfect for the day of the masters, with the weather slightly warmer and partially cloudy than Friday’s forecast includes a “40 % chance of showers”.
Saturday starts sunny in front of the outer chance at the afternoon shower later on that day, while the sunny sky is currently expected for the Sunday final round and temperatures potentially rising to 25 degrees Celsius (81 degrees Fahrenheit).
The bad weather delayed at least one suspension in the game in each of the last six editions of Masters, while the rain was experienced in more than half of the 88 previous editions of the event.
