Augusta, Ga. – after every year, Jon Rahm He likes to press the reset button. And he is heading for this main season at Masters, the Spaniard felt as if he had needed a restart for more than most years.
“I like to keep (goals) fresh instead of just saying I want to win x things in or in the next five years,” Rahm said in Augusta National on Tuesday. “I feel like I do better and go with clearer thinking to face the year if I do it when I end the page and start a new one for the following year.”
Rahm went from the heights of victory in Masters 2023 to find himself in the fight to cut at last year’s event. He continued his tie on 45.
In 2024, his rescue place was seventh.
“Not my favorite main season last year,” Rahm said. “I think last year the state of my game was unfairly tried on the basis of how I played here and on PGA compared to how I really played all year round. Although I understand why I don’t think it was the most amazing state of my game.
Since he joined Liv in December 2023, Rahm has played and ended up inside the top 10 – including two victories – of all the 18 events he played on the circuit. But as he admitted before this year’s champions, last season was a new experience for him, while he had to juggle with personal and professional changes.
“Last year, for me, it was hard for me, because it was the first major after entering Liva and I also resisted, so that week a lot of cannons,” Rahm said. “A lot of new things – a new dressing room, have a masters dinner. It was a lot to adapt to. I think it was very internal in my case than external.”
Rahm’s game did not fall out. On Tuesday, he joked that he could be outside the TOP 100 in the official world golf ranking (80.) – which does not take into account the LIV events – but is still the fourth in the golf ranking ranking.
“I would just say that I did the score really well last year,” Rahm said. “I never really felt 100% comfortably with my game, and that’s why in the larger stages, when it was difficult, like here or PGA, I didn’t play my best golf.”
Later in Spanish at his Rahm press conference, he added that he worked with his driver – he saw too many balls from the tees last year – and feels sharper overall. When he asked where he felt that he was ranking in sports right now, Rahm laughed.
“I would still consider myself to be the 10 best players in the world,” Rahm said. “(But) it’s hard to say that these days.”
Rahm noted that his mental state helped his family with him last week and this week in August – his wife Kelley Cahill was unable to travel since last year’s PGA championship after his third child. He also said that although not superstitious, he said in the nine performances he had at Masters, he said at the course of the course in weeks leading to the tournament seven times.
This year he couldn’t. The last time it happened 2023 when he won.
“If I win this year,” Rahm said. “Then I definitely won’t come again soon.”
