The best golfers in the world are chasing the main glory of Masters this week, but who will come to the top of Augusta National and ensure the green jacket?
After last year’s victory with four shots, Scottie Scheffler returns as a champion, while the ruling winner FedExcup is trying to become the first Back-to-Back in Masters by Tiger Woods and secure the third main victory in four years.
World No. 1 is a popular Bookies in front of Rory McILroy, the only double winner of the PGA Tour this season and someone who has another opportunity to claim his only missing Major, which is needed to complete the Grand Slam career.
Xander Schauffele won two main titles in 2024 and has an impressive record in Masters because Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Åberg – two more players in the first five world – will arrive after both rivalry in last year’s competition.
Hideki Matsuyama, Russell Henley and Viktor Play are all winners on the PGA Tour this season, while Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry have both enjoyed a consistent beginning of the year and are among others who want to invite great victory.
Will there be another big main winner in Masters? Could a surprising package impress Augusta National? Before the main week, Live from Thursday to Sky SportsThe Sky Sports Golf team has selected some of the players who expect to impress …
Will McIlroy do the Grand Slam history?
World 2 McIlroy has already requested AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM and players this season, the first time he was won twice in the calendar year before the Masters, although he saw as he waits for another meaning of the 11th season.
“I think it’s time and I think he has suffered enough of big societies,” said Dame Laura Davies. “His form of this year is great and it is hard to see how he does not exceed the finish line at Augusta National and for the rest of the days he goes to the masters dinner.”
Butch added: “His game is completely ready for the game. I think that if he can relax and just play golf and let it stand, I think it could be the one that could get him through the hump.
“It takes so bad and you saw last year that he wouldn’t be played.
Morikawa ready for the third major?
It seems difficult to believe that Morikawa has only won once on the PGA Tour from victory at Open in 2021, his second main title in so many seasons, even though he offers a form to indicate that the return to the winner circle may be close.
“Morikawa had three best 10s in a row and playing great,” said former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart as he watched the American surface fifth, tied-10. And the third period in its last three performances in Augusta National.
Nick Dougherty added: “Statistically, he is currently the best iron player in the world. He recently knocked on the door and has a victory.
“He’s got the game – the golf course of the second shot where you need to have control of your irons. In this present he is the best for this, so it could be his week.”
Rare English winner in Augusta National?
The victory of Masters Danny Willett in 2016 happened that he became the first English winner of the green jacket by Sir Nick Faldo, with seven English in the field this week in the hope of changing this run.
“I have a lot of faith in Tommy Fleetwood,” Harmon added. “I think his game suits Augusta National. It all comes to his launch. If he can sort out to those Greena, I think he will have a great chance to win.”
Dougherty said, “Fleetwood didn’t play great last week. He’s on the periphery, but I feel like it’s a place to get something because he shows good progress this season.
“I think he has a pretty good game here. It will depend on the fact that he will have a decent week, of course. It is a kind of golf course where you normally have to hit the north of 52 green from 72 and he is a real man for this work because he has real power in this area.”
The former US Open winners Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose are among the other English hopes in the field, along with the debutants of Laurie Canter and Aaron Raim, while Tyrrell Hatton is one of those who are challenging for the main victory.
“All eyes will be on two favorites – and of course – but I will go to Hatton,” said Ewen Murray Sky Sports. “Although he says he’s not comfortable here, he had some good performances here and last year he finished ninth.
“If he can find four quiet days among his ears, he has a game that is to deal with August’s tests. He is a good driver, a good iron player, has a good short game and is also very happy under pressure.”
