Rory McILroy has dreamed of completing his career Grand Slam since he was eight, with this year’s trip to Masters, potentially his best chance to make his child ambitions to reality.
McIlroy fought every year since his success in the PGA championship in 2014, while World No. 2 arrived at August National, his waiting for the elusive fifth main victory entered the 11th season.
The 35-year-old has in the last decade of the 21 best 10 in Major, without reaching the winner’s circle, but two victories in the early season on the PGA Tour in 2025 increased the chance of McILroy to secure the green jacket.
McIlroy followed his victory at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM by winning players, the fifth global title in 14 months, its appearance and consistency in recent seasons gave him confidence in August National.
“I feel better equipped than I have ever attacked this golf course,” McIlroy said Sky Sports.
“This year I made real conscious efforts to be really hard to manage my course and how I strategically try to portray the way around the golf course.
“I gave well this year, my around the green game was really good. Every aspect of my game was really, really solid, so I think to build all these things together this week is obviously a role model to complete the work.”
Quick start necessary for McIlroy?
Northern Irishman is a traditionally slow starter in Augusta National and in his 16 shows he entered only a sub-70 round and since 2018 he has not opened with lower wheels.
McIlroy fired in 2011 by seven under 65 to gain a share of leadership, in the year when he was perfectly missed the advantage with four benefits in the last day to miss the first main title, but after any opening round he could not get into three strokes.
Its diameter of the score in the opening rounds of Masters is 71.7, which is almost 3.5 blows worse than those who have won the green jacket since the debut in 2009, while after the opening round it has not been inside the TOP 10 in the last six years.
A good start was vital in recent male large societies, each of which each of the last six winners in the first four after the opening round and all the last five masters in the first three after the first round.
McIlroy is combined 14 over in the first two days in Masters and then 22 under the weekend. If he can cancel this morning round Hoodoo and start on Friday morning on the top page of the ranking, then the excitement over his hope Grand Slam will only increase.
“I’m coming back when I was eight years old, someone said – it’s somewhere in the video -” What do you want, what you do when you’re older? “McILroy explained.
“I said,” I want to be the best player in the world and I want to win all the big companies “and I have done all these things almost from this.
“Trying to fulfill the child’s dream I always had and tried to make eight or nine -year -old Rory proud of what he was able to achieve and what he could get out of the golf game.”
Will McILroy avoid Grand Slam distraction?
McIlroy spent time working with long -term coach Michael Bannon and since the last start he was treated on a minor elbow problem, tied the fifth surface in the Texas Open Open and created two scout missions to August National.
In recent days, he has dominated media attention when he seems to have only become the sixth player in the modern era to win all four main titles, although McILroy seemed to see to be significantly more relaxed and focused on his preliminary media duties than 12 months ago.
McIlroy revealed that he was watching Bridgerton this week and reading John Grishama’s novel to turn off from Golf, instead he focused on building at his impressive start to the season and ignoring attention.
“I’ve always been good with distraction more than anything else,” he added. “Whether they are TV shows or books and not watching television and literally just getting into your own little bubbles throughout the week, it is for me the best way to block the noise and stories.
“I know it’s there, but the less I look at it and the less I see it and the less I hear, the better it’ll be for me on the golf course.”
