The former champion Tom Watson is not convinced of an agreement that connects PGA Tour and Liv Golf League together and will be re -re -re -re -re -re -re -playing.
The professional game for men has been broken since the introduction of LIV Golf, supported by Saudi Arabia by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), while players from PGA Tour and DP World Tour joined the district since its launch in 2022.
In June 2023, a framework agreement to approach the tour closer to each other was signed, but it has to be completed, so Liv Golf Players cause unimportant that they are on PGA on PGA and limit the top players in the world.
The PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said last month that President Donald Trump’s involvement in the discussion caused the prospects of unifying “very real”, although Watson not so optimistic about Masters.
“I don’t see a real working mechanism for two tours to join,” Watson said at his press conference, watching his role as an honorary starter in August National. “I think that’s one of the reasons why you haven’t seen an agreement since June two years ago.
“One thing I know is that Scottie Scheffler said in his speech for a past championship dinner on Tuesday evening,” I’m glad we’re all together again. “So the players would like to connect.
“It’s really on powers to find out if there is a frame where both tours can work together. I don’t see this framework is happening.
“Maybe they are smarter people than me, but a key element of PGA Tour, and the only thing that is required of you is to get permission to play in a competitive tournament, rules against conflicting events.
“It’s to protect our PGA tour sponsors so that the fields are not exhausted from all good players when they go and play more tournaments. I don’t see both tours can connect.”
Regardless of the change?
LIV Golf has seen the PGA Tour to change its schedule and a business model, with more signature events and purses at record prices, with Grand Slam Champion Jack Nicklaus, who believed the switch was successful.
“Liv pushed the PGA tour to do some things that were a bit premature for the PGA Tour,” Nicklaus said. “But the PGA tour is fine.
“They changed their structure. The players now own a piece of what’s going on.
I would like to see how everyone will come together? Sure, I think we would all. But I think the PGA tour is a tour, and there is a place where most of your good players are, and I think it’s very healthy no matter how it works, but of course we would all like to see everyone together. ”
There are 12 LIV Golf League players for masters, including seven former champions, although Fred Ridley’s chairman has confirmed that there are no plans to introduce another category for those competing on the Saudi circuit.
“Historically, we have considered special cases of invitation to international players, which is, as Joaquin Niemann has been invited for the past few years,” Ridley explained.
“We feel that we can deal with this problem, be it a player LIV or a player on some other tour that should not otherwise be eligible for an invitation to do it with a special invitation.”
