Lewis Hamilton hopes that the upgraded floor can “take a step” this weekend on the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The seven -time world champion tolerated the frustrating beginning of his first campaign with the Italian team, which did not reach the pre -season billing as a candidate for the title.

“I really don’t feel a huge number of problems, just a lack of overall performance that we can take a step this weekend (forward).”

This weekend he sees that Formula 1 will return to the scene of pre -season testing on the Bahrain International Circuit, another element that Hamilton hopes that he can lead to a rise in Ferrari’s performance.
He added: “From the test we had here, I did quite a lot of driving, so I should be much more comfortable in the car than I was here.
“We have upgraded, we have a better understanding of settings, so hopefully it should be good for a better weekend.”
Although Hamilton hoped to improve, he does not expect the new parts to be Ferrari for the same conditions with the first front runs McLaren.

“We are trying to figure out how to catch McLaren,” Hamilton said.
“Apparently they got a great car. Last year they won the designers’ championship, this year they started well, just like the other two best teams.
“I think we have learned a lot in the last few races. And I think this weekend is a step forward for us.
“It’s not necessarily closing the gap, but it should be aimed at closing the gap. It doesn’t close the gap completely, but if we can extract more out of the car, which is what we try to work on, hopefully we’ll see better results.”
