Now we are around a third journey through the Indian Premier League 2025, so it seems to be a good time to buy and assess which teams look healthy and that need to be revived.
It’s a cliché that bowling wins you T20 trophies, but it’s true. The view of the IPL table will also tell you that the early front runs have made significant changes in their bowling attacks on the auction, the changes that strengthened them.
In the first two years, Gujarat Titans got into two finals and had a bowling attack on a weapon in both seasons.
In 2023 they even had the three highest rams at the Rashid Khan, Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma.
Last year, their bowling completely lost their top (also bats, which did not help) and looked the shadow of their former self.
At the auction, they decided to need revamp, and their smart purchases are already starting to bear fruit. Mohammed Siraj looked close to his fiery best, while Prasidh Krishna showed that when he was fit, he could be a real weapon for all formats.
The Canny Sai Kishhore carried a burden to such an extent that it was not even recorded that Rashid was completely ineffective. If it also hits the mold, they will sail into the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals was the worst bowling side of the tournament last year and they had to make a statement in the fast bowling department.
For some reason, Kolkata Knight riders let Mitchell Starc go (bizarre decisions) and the capital cities threw themselves at the auction.
Four games inside and he has already made a huge difference and picked up the early goals to get before the game before playing. With Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel still one of the best spin duo around, now they have a bowling attack that can compete with the best bats.
His partner Aussie New-Miček Josh Hazlewood had a similar impact on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Neither he nor the Starc played so much IPL cricket.
In fact, Hazlewood played only 33 matches. The main reason is that they preferred the international cricket over IPL, which helped them keep them and fresh in the mid -1930s.
Now we see what IPL has missed in the last few years and how much a team can offer that is lucky to have them.
Gujarat, Delhi and Bangalore are fighting to launch
So Gujarat, Delhi and Royal Challengers have all improved their bowling attacks and, as a result, look at gross health. Three teams at the bottom of the table are there mainly because their launching did not shoot.
The most visible example is Chennai Super Kings. They lost four in a row, chasing everything and every time their lack of firepower in the middle order was as clear as the day.
In the second half of the shifts, they rely too much on Shivam Dube, and too often Ravindra Jadeja and Vijay Shankar are obliged to score very quickly from the ball, something that naturally does not come.
The elephant in the room is MS Dhoni. His strike in the last two seasons has been very good, but because he has a chronic problem with his knees, CSK is reluctant to bring him to the last five overs or sometimes later.
But until now, it is often too late and the game has been lost.
Chief coach Stephen Fleming said “Dhoni can’t bat 10 exceeded in a full wand”, but I still think it can be brought a little earlier to give him time to influence the match with the bat. If not CSK, it can end too late for their chances of playoffs.
The big shock of the season was that Sunrisers found themselves on the table.
After Royals dominated their first match, it looked as if they were picked up where they ended up last season, but their launching suddenly didn’t work significantly. However, their problem is not a lack of strength – if something, it is the opposite.
Mantra of the six best – preventing Nitish Kumar Reddy – is to go out all weapons, but when it doesn’t work, there is no plan to exist B. I still think they can recover and end up in the first four, but they must turn things immediately.
Two of their other three games are against Mumbai, which could help because they started again. They have a strong set of launching on paper, but it seems that in tight chases, which is not the habit of falling into.
Their depth of their rotary bowling also looks light, which could be more of a problem as the tournament wear.
There is a long journey, so expect the table to change, but so far it seems that mega auction shaken things and we can have some teams in the playoffs that were not there last year.
