Coach Chelsea Women Sonia Bompastor says that the teams “want to be in our position” despite the “unsatisfactory” 2-2 draws against West Ham women in WSL.
Blues ran into a 2-0 line inside 20 minutes in dominant openingBut they were hung back with two goals of Shekiera Martinez when the hammers were fought for a draw.
The result is reduced by Chelsea leadership at the top of the table to six points, with a persecution package – Arsenal, Man UTD and Man City – won his matches on Sunday.
However, despite his own confession that the elements “were not good”, Bompastor maintains a balanced look with her team, which still has to be defeated in WSL this season.
She said Sky Sports: “We had a really dominant first half, especially the first 30 minutes. We created a lot of opportunities, we should have scored more than two goals in the first half, but no.
“Then we allowed West Ham to score from the throw -in, which is not good from us. Performance in the second half was not good enough for us to achieve a better result.
“We also admitted too many situations defensively, but when you look at a larger picture, there are four games left, we are six points clear and in a really good position. Teams will wish to be in our position.
“It’s disappointing, but we’re in a really good position, still going to the next block … We have to stay together and be positive.”
The Sunday game meant the end of the exhausting few weeks for Chelsea, including the settlement of four matches with Man City in three competitions. On Thursday evening, they defeated their opponents WSL in the Champions League to achieve the semifinals, and are also in the last four FA Cup.
But Bompastor does not use his schedule as an excuse for a draw and adds: “This block (games) was crazy. We played so many games – we traveled a lot in eight games in 28 days, played intense games – and it is always difficult to have all energy with this rapid turn.
“But it’s not an apology. We have depth and quality in the group enough to complete this block with a better result. But sometimes it happens when you’re not clinic enough.”
Skinner was pleased with the character of West Ham
For West Ham, they are now undefeated in their last three WSL games and loses only once in the last five. This run involves receiving points from Chelsea and Man City.
Hammers boss Rehine Skinner said Sky Sports: “This is the first time we had a point from Chelsea. We worked incredibly hard and eventually caused them problems. I am pleased with the character and how the team went for the game.
“We probably want to forget about the first 20 minutes, but then we grew up and did well to achieve the goal.”
“The depth of the unit has improved … and is that” never say die “across the team. Faith and trust in the team have grown so much on the basis of how we play.
“The character in the team gets us to the point where we know we can get something out of it.”
West Ham is now up to seventh in the WSL table and Skinner added: “We are looking for completion as high on the table as we can.
“I never look at the bottom of the table, only the teams we’re trying to catch, and that’s what controlled this team game in the game. We focused on the one before and we want to beat another team.”
Christensen: West Ham is not lucky, they worked hard
Izzy Christensen on Sky Sports: “The marting of Martinez put a lot of faith in this area to the side … They make up a nice trio forward with Assey and Ueki.
“What impressed me most was in the game today and was competitive. The way they watched in the second half were in Chelsea’s faces and deserved a lot of credit.
“West Ham is not lucky now and worked hard to achieve this running results. It comes because they held on their task and believe in what they were doing.
“It is a message for other teams in this league in that it is patient and also knew it was a process. For West Ham, the champions point is exceptional.”
