Formula 1 will not return to the V10 engines in the immediate future after the “productive” meeting between FIA and teams took place on Friday.
The meeting was led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulay and before that F1 should consider the return to the V10 engines, which were last used in 2005.
Ben Sulayem enforced a return as early as 2028, but the new regulations 2026, which will notice a major change in the energy unit and chassis regulations, will be scheduled by 2030.
Sky Sports News It will understand that after 2026 there is no timeline for the next F1 engine formula.
“At the opening of the meeting, the FIA President wanted to emphasize that the purpose of the assembly was to look for cost -effective solutions to protect the long -term sustainability of sport and the Formula 1 business,” the FIA read.
“The FIA was firmly committed to Formula 1 regulations from 2026. The FIA technical department together with a number of participating parties invested a lot of time in framing the 2026 regulations on hybrid energy units with 100 % sustainable fuel.
“Regulation 2026, controlling energy unit and chassis, attracted a new energy unit manufacturer to sport – stressed that the correct technical path was selected for the 2026 cycle.”
Red Bull team director Christian Horner said Sky Sports F1: “It was a very cordial, productive meeting.
“The President FIA asked for feedback on what the next generation would look like.
“Certainly it is not 2027 (for the potential return to the V10 engines), to a large extent impossible for 2028, so it is all subjective. It is the fact that at the moment a mission is found, it is up to the PU to return to the FIA and proceed.”
F1 would need at least four engine manufacturers to vote in favor of amendment of regulations.
Mercedes, Ferrari and Honda will stay in sports since 2026, with PowerTrains Red Bull, in cooperation with Ford and supply energy units for Red Bull and Racing Bulls.
Honda planned to leave F1 after this year, but will remain in sport, although as the only supplier Aston Martin. Audi joins F1 for the first time when they take over Sauber.
The new Cadillac F1 team will also join the grid in 2026 and run under Ferrari Power, but plans to use its own energy unit by the end of the decade. General Motors were also part of a meeting held on Friday.
FIA trying to reduce the cost of F1
The 2026 Regulation will see 50 percent of the electric engine -powered engine and run exclusively on sustainable fuels.
The FIA has confirmed that electrification will always be “part of any future considerations” and the use of sustainable fuels is “imperative”. This means that any return of the V10 engine would almost certainly include an electrical element.
Other discussions will take place about the future of F1, but all teams committed to the regulations of 2026, which will also see smaller, brisk cars.
“Inevitably when you get a big change in regulation, the performance of performance occurs, and it is almost certain that it will happen next year,” Horner said.
“Another topic that was discussed this morning was how quickly the convergence could be? We have a budget ceiling, maybe engines do not need homologating, maybe you are able to upgrade engines under this budget ceiling that everyone has the same thing to support convergence as much as possible.
“We all want to have narrow quarters, not repetitions of what we had in 2014 (when one team dominated).
“What is the future, it is subjective and speculative. I thought it was a healthy discussion. Everyone was open and open to the future of the future, because what way will the automotive industry have, what effect will the tariffs have? F1 must also be protected.”
