Kent State was fired by football coach Kenni Burns, the school said on Friday in a statement.
The Mark Carney offensive coordinator will serve as a temporary coach and the school will be designed to search for a new coach at the end of the 2025 season.
Burns issued a statement on social media:

Burns was placed on an administrative holiday last month on an administrative holiday, but the school did not provide details of why Burns was on holiday. Burns has a record of 1-23 in two seasons with golden flashes. Last season it was 0-12, for the fifth in the history of the school they won.
“At the moment, we will focus on supporting our student athletes and provide them with the best opportunity to have a positive and competitive experience,” Kent State said on Friday in a statement.
Kent State referred ESPN to previous “intelligence articles” on Burns when he was asked for further information.
“Coach Kenni Burns has recently learned of the insignificant end of his position as the head coach at Kent State University. No need to add that the Burns coach has fulfilled all the challenges, including the problems with his players and the highest GPA in school history,” said Burn’s attorney Lee Hutton.
“Coach Burns allowed me as the main advisor to his judicial team to follow all the remedies that were available to him by law and re -captured his reputation.”
Hutton said his client was planning to bring a lawsuit against the university.
A source close to Burns said that Kent State recently made a Burns coach offering a purchase that was rejected.
